If you are a visitor in search of ojimbo art stuff check out my flickr album.
I post to flickr regularly unlike my poor blog here.
The best I can do is to periodically post some images and try to communicate via flickrmail.

This is a recent ink drawing with prismacolor pencils, on 9"x 10" bristol.

I Love this guys sculptures/carvings and he makes really cool woodcut prints also. Fantastic!

I am so damn bad at bloggy stuff. I do OK for a couple of days and then disappear. I tried to carve a rock I found in a field once, using a hammer and a railroad spike. It actually looked pretty good for my first attempt. It was a skull and I ended up using it as a base for a feejee mermaid carving. Here is a guy who really knows his way around a rock. Very inspiring.

Here is the finished version of alphabit,"M".
I'll probably put this up on ebay today.

SOLD

Here is the roughed out letter M relief.
It's hard to see without it's paint.
It will have a melting M, masked mermaid with a Mohawk and machete with some meat. She is wearing a mitt holding a meditating martian with a monocle and a mustache.
There is a martini, a molar, a match, money and a moon in the background.

Incredible sculpture of Evan Penny
Make sure you check out cmyk piece. WOW!

Here is my little totem with it's new paint and varnish.
It is carved basswood and a bit of bone, with paint and varnish.
It is about 29" tall 6" wide at the crabbyclaws, 5" circumference (measured around pop can)
It is a skinny vision of folky strangeness.

SOLD

I found out today that R.K.Sloane died.
His work continues to inspire me.
I admire R.K. Sloane for his ability to completely turn off any internal editor. Sick, hell no, gloriously sick! He showed us things we wish we could sometimes forget but never will.

These sculptures by John Taylor are great.
They really are so much beyond mere models.
Beautifully detailed fantastical forms full of wonderful textures and color. What an inspiration.

I made it to Seattle for the opening at RoqLaRue.
I am my wife's husband , my kids' father, a guy who loves making stuff,
but felt more than a bit awkard talking about myself.
Even so I met and spoke with a number of kind and interesting people. They were very supportive and encouraging. I'm definately not "ArtStar" material. I think I would be happier doing the occasional group show at most. I also brought my camera but only took 1 photo of a cool flyer.
I am grateful to Shawn and Jessica for putting me up at their home, showing me around town and making it a really fun weekend.
Thanks also to Dave and Mary for holding my hand.

I have been kind of a zombie this week. Started a small totem which should be done by next week.

I have been coerced into going to Seattle for the show.
I don't like to fly can't stand crowds and it'll be Friday the 13th.
Kirsten said they're going to have a fine microbrew to imbibe so that is a huge plus.
I'll get to see an old friend and maybe meet some of the really nice people who have given me so much encouragement and support over the years.
It really has made all the difference in the world to me to hear from people who like my work.
If you see someone's art that you think is cool definately email them and tell them so. It does not matter that you don't have any cash to buy stuff either. That encouragement can keep people running for years.
Get a flickr account too. There are tons of really interesting people artists/freaks/poets/minstrels...

The last of the new works for the Roq show. I feel a huge sense of relief.

Here are a few new pieces for the October show at RoqLaRue in Seattle.

Do you think we are born with a finite amount of imagination?
Use it or loose it, I think. I'm just trying to find a creative way to pass my time here on earth.
I used to be a real reference slave. I got so used to the observational, that my drawings got so damn tight they lost all personality. Learning how to carve helped me to reimagine things.
I don't need no stinkin reference...I gots my bad brain what gives me pictures pert near ever time I close my eyeballs. It makes me sad to think about all the happy little kids making drawings and clay monsters who'll give it all up for a shitty video game.
